CREATE – The Journey
The Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship and Technical Education (CREATE) was conceived and established in 1991. The core founders of CREATE, a professional couple, Ms. Shubhra Tandon and Mr. Dayanand Tandon who, between them, had experience both of the banking sector and also of entrepreneurship development.
Armed with this exposure and also a vision that they could possibly put their experience and expertise to greater use in their own vibrant and holistic setup, they decided to set up CREATE in 1991. One of the founder members is a lady hence,CREATE is a woman lead organization.
The core strength of CREATE lies in:
– its dedication to deliver quality interventions within the designated time frame and achieve intervention targets set for the intervention
– its ability to work with multilateral donors, international NGOs, Government Schemes and CSR initiatives with equal aplomb and success across the country
– its success at systematically handling and delivering quality research and field works and findings report across various states of India
CREATE currently has a total team strength of 56 members. This includes program staff and support staff. Of the total strength, approximately 6 are senior management members whereas 50 are project staff.
Approximately 70 percent of CREATE’s total team consists of female members. CREATE is a female led organization, with its Secretary, being a senior female member and one of the co-founders.
He is one of the core initiators of this organisation and is a Post Graduate in Economics and a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). Prior to setting up CREATE, he has worked in scheduled bank for 8 years. Besides this, he honed his training skills while he was a Senior Faculty at State level Training Institute of Industries Department, where he worked for 7 years. While with and heading CREATE, he has played a key role in Planning and implementation of large scale social development projects for women and children in education, health and livelihood. Also, he has successfully given direction to the CREATE team on several research studies on social issues. During his tenure at CREATE, Mr. Tandon has enabled quality intervention delivery to Multilateral agencies, International NGOs and a large number of Government departments & national level organistions,MNCs & PSUs
Heads Training ,Development and Publication cells in CREATE. She has been instrumental in giving direction to CREATE partnerships with Water Aids India, Uttar Pradesh State Aids Control Society, Mahila Kalyan Nigam, Directorate of Industries etc. She is a social activist and an active core founding members of CREATE. Ms. Shubhra is also a member of national level networks called FORCES and FANSA that address issues of children in the age group 0-6years and also water and sanitation. She specialises in organising training programs for trainers and development managers on various social and development issues and also in advocacy initiatives. With her Post Graduate in English literature, Ms. Shubhra also plays a key role in Research and Development and Publication cells in CREATE. She has been instrumental in giving direction to CREATE partnerships with Water Aids India, Uttar Pradesh State Aids Control Society, Mahila Kalyan Nigam, Directorate of Industries etc.
With diverse qualifications as a management professional and also post-graduation in economics and sociology, Mr. Sanjay is able to combine managerial skills to a social backdrop. His core areas of competency are operations, capacity building and research. Prior to working with CREATE, Mr. Sanjay has worked with several social sector organizations in Lucknow. While there, he has learnt to work with equal ease with both the informal NGOs and also social sector.
Mr. Manas is an Engineering and Law graduate and has a background of diverse professional exposure. He has worked in a variety of startups, ranging from education, hospitality and law. He has been in leadership roles and values the importance of teamwork. As a Zonal Manager, his strength lies in his understanding of group dynamics and his ability to connect quickly with his team. Mr. Manas brings in the modern perspective of organization structuring. His high energy management style combined with his innate ability to engage with the team ensures team work and transparency. the formal government structure.
CREATE’s headquarters are in Lucknow. In the past 34 years CREATE has had up to 10 additional field offices in diverse locations and states of India. Currently CREATE is working in the three states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
